A recital and master class by Steve Cohen will be among the highlights of 2020 Arkansas Clarinet Day, which will be hosted by Arkansas Tech University Monday, Jan. 27.

Cohen, associate professor in the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, may be the former principal clarinet and frequent soloist using the New Orleans Symphony, later referred to as Louisiana Philharmonic. He joined the brand new Orleans Symphony in 1975 and remained as principal clarinet with its successor, the Louisiana Philharmonic, through May 2004.

He has additionally been featured as concerto soloist at the Brevard Music Center, when they have been the main clarinet since 1979, and he has performed solo recitals and offered master classes in the United States, Canada, Europe, Korea, China, Taiwan, Bangkok and Japan.

Cohen's recital is planned for 2 p.m. All 2020 Arkansas Clarinet Day activities will take place at Witherspoon Hall, 407 West Q Street in Russellville.

Clarinetists ranging from junior high school to college students will participate in the day-long event, that will include multiple performances. Several student clarinetists from ATU will perform at 10 a.m.

Classes will discover by clinicians such as Dr. Steven Becraft from Henderson State University, Dr. Nophachai Cholthitchanta from the University of Arkansas, Dr. Andrew DeBoer in the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, Dr. Nicolas del Grazia from Arkansas Tech University and Dr. Kelly Johnson in the University of Central Arkansas.
